Within the traditional administrative division of the town Monti was the first “Rione” of Roma (Middle Age name for district).

It is number as one since it was spreading through the very center of the ancient town, occupying four of the seven hills of Rome. Disreputable in ancient roman times, it gave the birth to one of the greatest Roman ever: Julius Cesar.

Since Julius Cesar period it had a residential function till in the last years when it has become one of the trendiest areas of Rome.  Here people love to meet and to share aperitivo as well as food and wine in general.

Short building and small alleys shape an intimate atmosphere inviting people to have a stop and, simply, to relax; the ones residing here know each other and are used and friendly to the many people and travellers crossing the area.

Our food tour will start from the very upper part of the Rione Monti where some artisans of “bread and sweets” still are working, following the slopes of the Esquilino Hills entering the heart of the district to taste maritozzi, gelato and more… our walking tour it to be concluded in one of my favorite Winebars in town, some good Italian wine cannot miss! The tour is available for vegetarian too.
